From Summer Style to Fall Fashion
What’s good for the weather is good for the wardrobe.
Fall fashion gives my sweater/boot/blanket-loving heart its every desire. As soon as the temperature dips below 70 degrees, I reach for the layers. But in Tennessee, the temperature typically dips then rises once more, leaving the layers to wait a few more weeks before being put in heavy rotation. So what’s a girl to do when the leaves begin to change but the heat lingers? Well, if you find summer still hanging in the air come October, let your summer looks hang around too and breeze into the new season with pieces already in your closet! Add a loose layer to a summer dress. Add boots to summer pants.
As I’ve embraced a more ethical lifestyle (thanks, Noonday!) I’ve also shifted my shopping habits to follow a more sustainable hierarchy, which means making the most of what I already have. I love this graphic by Sarah Lazarovic that shares the “Buyerarchy of Needs”
As you can see, using what I have should be my first step. And that means looking at my closet through a creatively resourceful lens has become an important aspect of having a fashion-loving heart yet sustainable-style.
Today, I’m sharing three outfits that can transform your Summer style into functional Fall looks without even going shopping!
First up, the summer staple dress!
Depending on its length, you can easily transition from flats to boots, bare legs to jeans, and be all set for apple picking and pumpkin carving.
Shorter dresses fit best with this transformation, but longer ones work just as well by adding booties that don’t feel too bulky on the bottom. If it’s chilly out, throw on a sweater and you’re set!
Second, layer up!
That go-to collared shirt you’ve been wearing all Summer fits perfectly under your favorite Fall sweater. Switch up your accessories from bold earrings to simple studs and a statement necklace and your whole look changes even though the shirt stays the same!
Statement necklaces like the Masterpiece Necklace work well to spice up those trendy sweaters with minimalist patterns. They bring focus to your neckline so that high-collared sweaters look elegant and low-collared sweaters don’t have to compete with any other layers underneath.
Third, from Casual to Classic
Lastly, the pants and t-shirt that have been in heavy rotation all Summer get an upgrade in Fall.
I’ve paired mine with a floppy hat and chambray layer, but any layer will do if you have a bold pendant like this Ambrosia Necklace to balance it out. I tend to reach for bright colors in the Summer and deeper jewel tones in the Fall as the seasonal wardrobe staples tend to reflect the same, but choose your colors, embrace your style. and remember: if you put it on, you’re pulling it off!
