A Letter From Our Founder: Introducing Spring 2016
I am so excited to tell you about the inspiration behind Spring 2016! Every season I find myself wanting to grab the shoulders of everyone I know and tell them, “Ya’ll – this is the best Noonday season ever!” And every season, I’m right! From our designers here in Austin to our Artisan Partners across the globe, our team has succeeded in creating new collection that is nothing short of jaw dropping.
Wild Wanderings
This season we let our wanderlust take the reins. As we dreamed up new silhouettes, colors and materials, two themes emerged: a far-flung safari landscape and a vintage-inspired train ride across the French countryside. Explore our new Lookbook to see how these stories unfold!
Destination: Nairobi
For me, making a sustainable impact in Kenya is a dream more than twenty years in the making. When I traveled to Kenya at age 15, I saw poverty for the first time – but I also saw the power of opportunity. The story comes full circle this season as we bring you four new styles created by Artisans in Kenya!
Joseph is the owner of an Artisan Business we’re partnering with this season. I had the opportunity to spend some time with Joseph in Nairobi recently and learn more about his incredible story. Be sure to check out our interview here!
Our other new Artisan Partner in Kenya is located in the Nairobi slums and focuses on creating beautiful hand-forged brass pieces. Our team got to witness this process firsthand as we traveled through Africa to meet with our Partners across the continent. You can see some of this amazing process below.
Creature Comforts
I’ve been a big fan of designer Leah Duncan for years. When we began searching for an artist to collaborate with for Spring, my mind immediately went to her. Leah is actually a long-time Noonday fan and designed some tea towels made with organic cotton from India for one of our very first seasons!
For our new collection, we teamed up with Leah to create two incredible scarves. As she designed the motifs for the scarves, Leah was inspired by her visits to the American Southwest and all the unique creatures she discovered there. We sent the finished designs to our Artisan Partners in India, and both Leah and I couldn’t be more excited about the results!
Versatile Style
For Spring 2016, I’m all about accessories that can go the distance. With capsule wardrobes continuing to gain momentum, it’s more important than ever to invest in accessories that can make wardrobe stables feel new!
That’s why we designed our Spring Collection with versatility in mind. Our Kathmandu Bag from Nepal is a perfect example. It transitions from a more structured, square-shaped bag into a slouchy, boho carryall with just a couple quick snaps. I love how our Nepali Artisan Partners took their traditional dhaka print textile and made it fresh with custom colors and motifs just for our customers.
Another versatile style is the stunning Modern Romance Necklace from Uganda. Our designers have taken one of our favorite materials – the beloved paper bead – and elevated it into a work of art. This structured necklace can be worn long for a more dramatic look – or unhook the detachable bracelet for a lace collar-like style.
Connection Changes Everything
At Noonday, we’re all about building a flourishing world where people are connected. One of my favorite things is seeing what happens when women who seem very different find a spark of recognition in one another. That beautiful “hey, me too!” moment always stirs something deep within me.
For Spring 2016, we wanted to highlight some of the amazing connections that are taking place within our community – between Hostesses, Ambassadors and Artisans around the globe. Dive into our new Lookbook to read these incredible stories and discover how when we come together, we really can change the world!
Material Girls
Our design team had so much fun collaborating with our Artisan Partners around the world to develop new materials for Spring.
In Vietnam, we partner with a business that works with craft villages all over the country, harnessing local craft traditions to create dignified work. This season, we took collaborative design one step further by partnering with yet another craft village outside of Hanoi to introduce gorgeous hand cut marble into the collection. And I have to say, the results couldn’t be more stunning!
