How to Style Scarves for Winter
It’s hard to believe that fall is already fading into the background and winter is quickly approaching. And as it does, this season of red noses and blue fingers also ushers in some major fashion fun: scarves.
The Scarf is the easiest way to add punch, interest, and fashion to you winter wardrobe. There is just one problem with scarves – they can seem a little overwhelming to tie, style, and incorporate into your outfits. There are often just too many options or not enough options, too many techniques or not enough techniques. I am here to encourage you and give you some easy outfit ideas to help you get “wrapped up” in the fashion and fun of scarves. (See what I did there?)
To me, the best part of fall/winter fashion is the opportunity to layer. Layers of pattern and color are the key to elevating your fashion this time of year. Just like a well curated home, layers of clothes that mix textures and designs create a look with depth. Layering can add visual interest to a look and make it feel like “fashion.” And here is the best news of all – it is so easy to do, especially by adding a scarf!

1. The Northern Summit Scarf // India
First, I paired the Northern Summit Scarf with an easy look of skinny jeans and booties. I added in a couple fun trends that have been strong for several seasons – a “moto” style jacket, and colorful outerwear. This jacket also adds a trend I am seeing everywhere this season: the classic red and black buffalo plaid. The Northern Summit is made in India of charcoal gray wool and edged in a luscious tapestry-like trim in shades of rust, orange, and navy. It is details like this that elevate the work of Noonday’s artisan partners to a league of its own. This was the first scarf I fell in love with this season, because I knew it was an instant classic and so easy to wear.
2. Cozy Zip Wrap, Red // Peru
Speaking of classics, I give you the Cozy Zip Wrap. This girl has been around a few seasons now, no doubt because of her style, stripes, color, and versatility. She is a piece that can be worn in so many ways. One thing I have always valued about Noonday is that so many of the pieces are designed with many options in mind. There is no one right way to wear a Noonday piece, and nowhere is that more evident than with the Cozy Zip. I am using my Cozy Zip to bring in a trend I am loving this season – the cape. The Cozy Zip has a zipper that operates in two directions. Here I have opened it almost all the way in one direction, and then just put that in the back to make a cape. Voila!
3. Modern Fable Scarf // India
So I mentioned the trend of colored outwear. Here is another version. Say goodbye to wearing black or gray all winter, and introduce a red coat in a timeless style to brighten up the winter funk. The neck of this coat is a jewel-neck with no collar, which to me meant it was issuing an engraved invitation to pair it with a scarf. I chose the stunningly sumptuous silk scarf known as the Modern Fable. This piece features so many great colors – reds, blues, and even some greens, and is trimmed at each corner with fun tassels. Here I did a simple wrap, making the square scarf into long rectangle and bringing it around the neck until it can be tied in the front.
4. Brushfire Infinity Scarf // Peru
And last, but never least, I give you the Brushfire Infinity Scarf. Combining shades of gray, cream, red, blue, orange, and green, this new friend is made with love by artisans in Peru. I have a love/hate relationship with infinity scarves: I love them for their ease and effortlessness, but sometimes feel cramped by a perceived “lack of versatility.” But, lemme tell ya, this one is so versatile because of the colors and textures, and it can be worn with many outfits and coats. Here, I just went for it, trying a few more trends together- plaid and flannels are everywhere right now, as is the mix of high/low. This is your reminder from me: don’t forget to have fun. Clothes are utilitarian, of course, but this does not preclude them being fun! Why not wear a ball skirt in the woods holding a chicken?
