Hope After Heartbreak: Naslyn’s Story
Naslyn is a mother of four who specializes in knitting, beadwork, and tassel making for our Artisan Partner in Kabul, Afghanistan. Her smile shines bright, but behind Naslyn’s warmth is a story of struggle.
At the age of 16, Naslyn was forced to marry a 25-year-old man as his second wife. She quickly became pregnant with her first child and moved into her father-in-law’s home with her husband and his first wife. 10 years ago, tragedy struck – Naslyn’s husband, the breadwinner of their household, passed away from a battle with diabetes. Naslyn knew she needed a way to fund her family’s needs, and she needed to find a way fast.
Naslyn started to learn beadwork through a group of women in her neighborhood while primarily working as a housekeeper. When COVID-19 spread through her community, Naslyn’s housekeeping job was cut. Luckily, our Artisan Partner was in need of beadworkers to create styles for our new Winter Collection.
The fulfillment of Noonday Collection’s orders has directly supported Naslyn’s ability to feed her family and cover their living expenses. She is thankful and happy to continue this work!
The Noonday ornaments Naslyn creates have already sold out for the season! Thanks to your purchases, Naslyn and her team have been supported with consistent work during uncertain times. When you shop all Noonday accessories, host a Trunk Show, or become an Ambassador, you contribute to a story of empowerment of Artisans like Naslyn around the world.
