Five Reasons Why the Noonday Ambassador Opportunity is Perfect for College Students

When I joined Noonday Collection as an Ambassador last August, I was scared. Despite being an obsessive planner, the decision was incredibly impulsive. I was about to start my sophomore year at Clemson University, and my schedule was already packed! What if my friends didn’t understand and wouldn’t want to support me? What if I had overcommitted and couldn’t keep up? What if I failed? These questions and more crowded my mind, but I chose to dive into the work, eager to make a difference.

Over a year later, I can say without a doubt that becoming a Noonday Collection Ambassador was one of the best decisions I have ever made! To my friends in college: adding one more thing to your schedule may seem impossible, and I get it. But keep reading, because there are countless reasons why this job is amazing, and I want to share five specific reasons why becoming a Noonday Ambassador is perfect for you in this season of life.

1. You’ll have a flexible source of income.

When you become an Ambassador, you are starting your own personal business. That means you can determine your commitment and reassess on a yearly, monthly, and even weekly basis. Noonday can be a full-time summer job, a hobby you fit in between classes, or a unique blend of both! Rather than conflicting with my academic schedule like I initially feared, Noonday helps me manage my time well and provides me with an opportunity to de-stress and escape the craziness of college life. Even better, it’s a source of income during the semester!

2. You’ll build a community beyond campus.

Everyone has a reason for becoming an Ambassador, and I was no exception. In the Ambassador community, we like to call this reason our “Noonday Why.” My “Why” was: 1) I loved the company mission and wanted to make an impact around the world (more on that later), and 2) I needed a reliable source of income during the school year. Joining for multiple reasons, I had a lot of expectations, but what surprised me most was the incredible community I became a part of. On a college campus like Clemson, you might go days without seeing anyone over the age of 22. Noonday has given me the opportunity to break out of the college bubble and make friends with women of all ages and walks of life. I have a team that supports and encourages me as I grow my business and friends that I can do life with. Because of Noonday, I’ve gained lifelong mentors and friends.

 3. You’ll have valuable experience to add to your resume.

If you’ve been at college longer than a year, you’ve probably been told a college degree alone does not guarantee you a job. From what I’ve been told, gaining industry experience and transferrable skills before graduation is the best way to ensure a successful start to your career. As a Noonday Ambassador, you gain experience with public speaking, sales, marketing, social media, and more! For a communication major like myself, all of these skills are perfect for my resume. To the future doctors, nurses, and engineers that feel like this job won’t help you develop professionally, consider this: marketing yourself is the most important aspect of any job or job interview (a fact I’ve been told by multiple industry professionals), and the marketing and public speaking skills you pick up with this job are invaluable in any field.

4. You’ll be an advocate for social justice.

When I drive down the street to the grocery store, I see fast food restaurants and retail shops with massive “We’re Hiring!” banners taped across their windows. Whether I like the job or not, there are at least a dozen opportunities for paid work within a couple miles of my home. In many countries, this is not the case. Often, thousands of people apply for a single job when it becomes available, only to be turned away. Working hard does not always guarantee success. But that’s where Noonday comes in.

Noonday partners with Artisan Businesses in 15 different countries and creates a diverse, globally inspired market. By selling handcrafted jewelry and accessories, Noonday is helping to employ hundreds of men and women. What does that mean for you? On average, an Ambassador’s work supports three Artisans. As an Ambassador, you are directly impacting the lives of three Artisans around the world! You’re helping three people feed and educate their children, pay rent, and keep a meaningful job. You may be helping one of the countless survivors of human trafficking and abuse that has found hope and restoration in an ethical, life-giving job. You are helping communities flourish. And the whole time, you are getting to share those stores of hope, healing, and success with your friends and customers! Noonday is changing the world, and you can be a part of it.

5. You can travel the world!

Have you studied abroad during your time in school? Do you wish you could, but are limited academically or financially? Every year, Noonday takes a handful of Ambassadors to visit our beloved Artisan Partners. When you travel with Noonday, you gain perspective not only on what life is like in a different country, but also on what life looks like with the consistent jobs Noonday provides. To give you an idea of the long-term impact Noonday has in communities, take a look at our first Artisan Business Partners in Uganda, who we’ve been working with since 2010.

Due to the length and consistency of the partnership, Jalia and Daniel have been able to not only employ their community, but also give back to the region as a whole. They have built a library for the community and are now providing daycare and medical care! You can experience impact like this firsthand as an Ambassador, and Noonday will help you get there. As someone who cannot currently study abroad in school, my goal is to visit our Guatemalan Partners before I graduate. Next summer, qualified Ambassadors are visiting Ecuador, India, Peru, and Guatemala. Would you travel if given the chance? Become an Ambassador and start working towards your trip today!
